A True Story About Jackie Robinson
In the early 1950s, legendary baseball hero Jackie Robinson literally "tested the ice" for his kids who so eagerly wanted to skate on the frozen lake near their home. Under Sharon Robinson's skillful authorship and Kadir Nelson's vivid illustrations, TESTING THE ICE also becomes a stunning metaphor for her father's remarkable racial breakthrough.
Sharon did a wonderful job sharing her father’s memory and his legend of being the famous first negro Major League Baseball player. Kadir Nelson did a superb job with the illustrations in Testing the Ice as well. The drawings are eye-popping, bold and colorful. In my opinion it is a great book to read aloud in a group setting, or silently on your own.

A great memory from my childhood is from when my family went camping up in Silver Lake, MI and we went parasailing and then into the dunes where my dad almost rolled our Jimmy (with the whole family in it)! It's one of those things you just don't forget!

The greatest memory from my childhood is going fishing every week with my granddaddy. I learned so much from him and his stories. I miss him very much.

I remember driving to visit my grandparents in N. D. and getting stuck in a snowstorm. Our car went off the road, we were all fine and so was our car, but I remember my grandpa coming and carrying me out of the our car and into his car. :)
One of my great memories from my childhood was helping my grandmother in her garden. Afterward we would drink sweet tea and eat berries.

Unfortunately (due to brain damage), I have no memories of my childhood. But I'm making up for the loss, by enjoying my grandchildren as they grow:-)
Thanks so much for the giveaway.
