So You Want to Be President? DVD
SCHOLASTIC STORYBOOK TREASURES™
CELEBRATES PRESIDENT’S DAY WITH A NEW DVD
SO YOU WANT TO BE PRESIDENT? …AND MORE STORIES TO CELEBRATE AMERICAN HISTORY
IN STORES FEBRUARY 9
NEW YORK -- Just in time for President’s Day (February 15), Scholastic Storybook Treasures™ releases SO YOU WANT TO BE PRESIDENT?
...AND MORE STORIES TO CELEBRATE AMERICAN HISTORY, a humorous and educational DVD. The DVD includes an all-new animated adaptation of Judith St. George’s Caldecott Medal-winning book, So You Want to Be President?, narrated by Emmy® Award-winning actress Stockard Channing, and other stories about America’s vibrant political life. The perfect gift for young citizens ages 5 and up, the DVD will be available in stores and at newkideo.com on February 9 for $14.95srp.
The lead tale, So You Want to be President? – one of four animated stories on the DVD – is a lighthearted roundup of anecdotes and trivia cast as a guide to aspiring presidential candidates: for example, it might boost your odds of being elected if your name is James (the moniker of six former presidents) or if your place of birth was a humble dwelling (“You probably weren't born in a log cabin. That’s too bad. People are crazy about log-cabin Presidents. They elected eight”).
Additional stories include the adaptation of My Senator and Me: A Dog’s Eye View of Washington D.C., a tail-waggingly funny story written by the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy; Madam President, based on the witty book about a girl who dreams of occupying the Oval Office, written and illustrated by Lane Smith; and I Could Do That! Esther Morris Gets Women the Vote, based on the book by Linda Arms White. The last story tells how one girl's gumption propels her through a life filled with challenges until, in 1869, she wins the vote for women in Wyoming Territory.
The SCHOLASTIC STORYBOOK TREASURES series hails from the vaults of Weston Woods Studios, world-renowned for their careful film and video adaptations of best-selling children’s storybooks. Librarians and teachers around the country have long been using these very same productions, created by Weston Woods Studios with authors and illustrators, to enhance their students’ pre-reading experiences. Founded more than 50 years ago, and now a division of Scholastic, Weston Woods continues to produce top-notch video storytelling.
---
My children and I enjoyed watching this DVD together. One of our favorite stories was "So You Want to Be President?". We learned many fun facts about many of our past presidents. Stockard Channing did a great job of narrating this story as well.
The second story is about a dog named Splash. Splash takes you on a tour of Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Splash was the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy's family pet.
The third story of this collection is entitled, Madam President. This is a cute story about a little girl that imagines herself as President. Finally, we have the true story written by Linda Arms White called "I Could Do That! Esther Morris Gets Women the Vote". This is a inspirational story for young girls because it teaches that you can obtain your dreams despite your gender.
In conclusion, there are special interviews with Lane Smith and Senator Edward M. Kennedy and Splash the tour guide. I would highly recommend this DVD as part of your family or homeschool library.

Tatutina: Dog Treat Boxes
Tatutina
www.Tatutina.com
Happy painted Gifts for a Happy Life Style
About Company
Tatutina is a small family owned business out of Attleboro, Massachusetts that was established in 1984. Barbara along with daughters, Roberta and Georgia, strive to bring unique hand painted quality products into our world that reflect a happy and fun lifestyle.
Product Description
Your pet will love you for awarding them with one of the wonderful Treat Boxes created just for your dog made by Tatutina. They have several treat boxes: Black Dog, Yellow Dog and the new Bright Colors treat box. Each treat box is painted with non-toxic paints and made of solid wood. Don’t worry about pinching your fingers or that of a smaller child because the lid lifts right off. Treat Boxes from Tatutina would make for a great gift for any pet lover. Dimension 7" x 4.5" x 9" Retails for $25.
My Thoughts
My girls love pulling a treat out of their new Black Dog treat box sold at Tatutina. And Charley, the family Chocolate Labrador, loves it as well. He has a marvelous time wagging his own thick tail with anticipation of each treat. Giggles. The Black Dog is wonderfully designed with a lid that is easy to open. The handle is shaped like a small doggy bone and has the words "Dog Treats" painted on the lid. The left and right sides of the box are painted with bright red fire hydrants. You can see it better if you visit Tatutina. My only complaint is that I think a Chocolate Labrador(brown dog) treat box would make it more perfect. Hahaha!!! It really doesn't matter what type or color of doggie is painted on the treat boxes because each one is beautiful.
Besides Treat Boxes at Tatutina you will find colorful sweaters for the kiddies. Each whimsically designed sweater is hand knit in Peru. While at Tatutina, why not browse the many wonderful items in their shop. You will find recipe boxes, memory boxes, totes, wastebaskets, art supplies holders, and storage caddies! And for the kids, they have beautifully designed bookends, stools, peg boards, wooden letters, and much more. For the new parent they have a baby collection with baby melamine dish sets, keepsake boxes, min bin sets, diaper/wipes caddy and more. Guess what? They did not forget the family pet either. With Valentines less than a month away, giving a gift from Tatutina would be Oh, so sweet! Don’t ya think?

A Read-Along DVD
THIS JANUARY, COMMEMORATE ONE OF THE
20TH CENTURY’S MOST INSPIRING CIVIL RIGHTS ICONS
AND MORE AMERICAN HEROES WITH A BRAND NEW DVD
FROM SCHOLASTIC STORYBOOK TREASURES™
MARCH ON! THE DAY MY BROTHER MARTIN CHANGED THE WORLD…AND MORE STORIES ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY
IN STORES JANUARY 12
NEW YORK, NY– This January, as America prepares to commemorate the birthday of our country’s most iconic civil rights leader and Black History Month, families can learn more about Martin Luther King, Jr. and other heroes of African American history in an entertaining and educational new Scholastic Storybook Treasures™ DVD release. MARCH ON! THE DAY MY BROTHER MARTIN CHANGED THE WORLD…AND MORE STORIES ABOUT AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY includes more than an hour of inspiring true stories and will be available on January 12 for $14.95srp.
The lead story, March On! The Day My Brother Martin Changed the World, is a moving account of the day when Martin Luther King, Jr. presented his “I Have a Dream” speech to the world during the civil rights March on Washington in1963. The story is told by Dr. King’s sister, Dr. Christine King Ferris, with colorful animation of London Ladd’s illustrations. As a bonus, the DVD includes an interview with the author, Dr. King Ferris. As the American Library Association noted about the production, “Lynn Whitfield's sensitive and stirring narration is enriched with audio clips of Mahalia Jackson's powerful song, crowd noises, and clips from MLK's speech. Music by Michael Bacon sets the tone for the film and seamlessly accommodates songs of the era.”
Three more historical tales follow King’s amazing, true-life story, each carefully adapted from award-winning children’s books: Martin’s Big Words (adapted from the book by Doreen Rapport, illustrated by Michael Collier), Rosa (written and narrated by Nikki Giovanni, illustrations by Michael Sporn), Henry’s Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railroad (based on the book by Ellen Levine, illustrated by Kadir Nelson). Together the stories have won 15 awards, including the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children’s Video, Caldecott Honor Award, and selection as a American Library Association Notable Video. Celebrity narration by Whitfield, Michael Clark Duncan and others, plus engaging music, make these tales come to life for a new generation of Americans.
SCHOLASTIC STORYBOOK TREASURES collects and presents these productions for the home marketplace and has, since its launch in 2003, become a top award-winning home video franchise for children.
